The house we are renting in Vilcabamba

the first morning we were here we already found a rental home for 275USD per month. It needs some serious cleaning. They hired a cleaning crew from Loja to take care of it. We should be able to move in in a few days. This is the access to our house. They started cleaning it up right away

This house is rustic but super clean. The house is located in a semi-jungle of exotic trees (bamboos, coffee trees, citrus, mango, banana trees) and ornementals like an enormous bougainvilliers in the backyard, 7 blocks from the central plaza. It's only an 8 minute walk to downtown. This is exactly what we need since we absolutely do not want to own a car here.
the kitchen is fully equipped and big enough for 6 people to eat in. An oven is a real luxury in Ecuador.
The dorm
The master bedroom.
This is a nice bathroom for Ecuador. The owner just installed an electric shower head for hot water. The water comes from the river. There is not hot water at the bathroom or kitchen sink

The view from one window in the kitchen

Louis has a passion for plants and flowers.

And this is where the kids watch their weekly movie on the computer.
And the outside jungle sink, just in case
We have two close neighbours. One is a young couple with a child in this house.

This is our second neighbours, right next to us. A young couple from Great-Britain lives there.

This is where we come out of our yard onto the trail
This is the creek right behind the house. It will be safe for the kids to play in it when the water is low.

This is the creek when it hasn't been raining for a couple days

This is after just a one hour storm

There are two ways to get to our house. We prefer to go by the creek, it is so pretty. When the water gets really high during the rainy season, we may not be able to use this route. Our house is on the right side of the trail about 80 feet from this little wall.
Every time we go to town we get to see this awsome view next to our house and we can't help but stare at it.
Some people came out to cut down some bamboo. One tall big bamboo is worth 5 dollars.

The owner of our rental changed the whole roof in just one day. It cost him 1000 USD all included. Materials were 900 USD and a roofer gets 25 USD per day. There were leaks when it was raining hard
