A hike at the natural reserve of Rumi Huilco

El rio Chamba goes through Vilcabamba.
We are adding this picture months later, after they changed the bridge.

This will be our first hike since we've been here!
We do a one hour loop that starts along the river.
This is an old fig tree.

This is the owners' house in the natural reserve.
Two people can stay in these fully equipped cabins for 26 USD per night, or four people for 36 USD.

There is also a campground with an outdoors kitchen and rustic showers.
A view over the Mandango from the natural reserve Rumi Huilco.

Sleeping Inca is on the right side (Mandango).

This large tree is a kapok tree.

This cactus is the famous San Pedro that locals use for Andean ceremonies.

This other cactus is not used for ceremonies but for its excellent fruit.

Louis loved picking up snails on the way.

Beautiful cactus flowers.
We get out of the reserve by the North end of the river trail and go accross this bridge.

We get back in town by the old Loja road. End of the loop.
